German Vigil for Tommy Robinson

England; the seat of the Mother of all Parliaments, the home of democracy, the country that was once the world’s beacon on the path to freedom and democracy. Germany; land of beer and sausages, the country that was once the home for fascism and genocide. How the worm has turned!

On October 24th, members of the German Defence League and PI-Berlin held a nightly vigil outside the British embassy in Berlin to show public solidarity with Tommy Robinson, unjustly imprisoned in England. Organised by the ‘Tag der Patrioten’ (Day of the Patriots) citizens' movement, more than a dozen people braved the city’s wintery cold night air to put all of England to shame.

Since then, these fellow patriots have been holding regular vigils outside the British embassy.  They have given speeches and are planning further vigils after tonight’s showing.  They have tried to get close to the embassy but the German police, on the instructions of embassy staff, have moved them back several yards away from the embassy walls.  It makes you wonder what the British authorities are scared of.  This is Berlin not Benghazi and these are calm, peaceful, civilised protestors but you could really hurt someone with candles and posters, couldn’t you? They have even said that they will not accept any petitions from the brave-hearted patriots.  

Tommy Robinson is being held in a cold dungeon of a prison cell, spending 23 hours out of every 24 in isolation because the prison is basically run by Muslim inmates.  He has been denied some of the very basic rights that would never have been denied to anyone else.  The spontaneous action by our German brothers and sisters puts us to shame.  Even the French are planning their own action in support of Tommy and his unfair incarceration.   Where are the English?  Where is the English spine like that of Jack Cornwell, who at 16 at the battle of Jutland remained at his station at one of the guns on board his ship, HMS Chester?  All around him the gun crew were dead or dying, but he didn’t panic, he stayed at his post until he too was killed by enemy gunfire.   Where is the English spine like that of Wat Tyler who led peasants against the establishment because of the imposition of a heavy poll tax and an act of law that tied workers to the land?   There are countless examples scattered throughout history where, in the face of overwhelming danger the English stood tall, proud and fearless.  They stood for their homes and families, for their country, for their comrades.  They stood for the things that once made Great Britain a truly great place to live.  

It’s time for English patriots to stand up and hold the line.  The thin red line was once the symbol of the boundary between civilisation and barbarism, let’s stand up and form that thin red line again.  Let us stand up for Tommy, let this craven government, it’s Stasi police force and it’s judges know that we, the English will not be cowed or frightened, that we will stand and demand the release of Tommy.  Whatever the truth about the alleged crimes he is charged with, Tommy is not a threat to society and should not have bail refused especially when even the Government’s own statistics tell us that large numbers of murderers on bail go on to murder again. http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201213/cmhansrd/cm121019/text/121019w0001.htm

Let us all stand up for Tommy, our European friends are showing us the way, now let us take the lead and take up the fight for Tommy’s release.

It’s somehow fitting, and yet also somewhat ironic that the stones of the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, where in the sombre days of the Cold War John F Kennedy once gave his historic “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, should now resound to the call of German voices, “Wir sind Tommy Robinson”.   

Let’s show the world that we are all Tommy Robinson.
